We offer specialist training and prevention services relating to all aspects of sexual violence.  This includes prevention and education in schools, as well as specialist training for statutory services, voluntary organisations, and private companies.

Our training packages are informed by our over 40-year history of providing specialist sexual violence support services in East Kent and are delivered by accredited front-line practitioners.

All training can be delivered either face to face or online, and we’re happy to work with your organisation to create a bespoke training package tailored to your needs.

Who we provide training for

Professionals

Level 4 Counsellor Training Course (NOCN endorsed)

This course is the Level 4 Rape and Sexual Abuse Counselling (and is also Part 1 of the Level 6 Diploma in Rape and Sexual Abuse Counselling).

All counsellors and those hoping for a placement with KSAAS must successfully complete this course prior to undertaking any client work. You must be qualified to at least Level 4 to complete this course.

Level 5 Rape and Sexual Abuse Counselling with Children and Young People

This is a Level 5 NOCN endorsed counselling training programme aimed at counsellors who have prior qualifications and/or experience in working with young people, to prepare them for working with young people who have been impacted by sexual abuse.

This course takes place over 14 sessions and is currently being delivered virtually at a cost of £600 (10% discount available for members of the Rape Crisis Network)

Level 6 Diploma in Rape & Sexual Assault Counselling

The L6 Diploma in Rape & Sexual Abuse Counselling is a specialised training programme for counsellors wishing to deepen their expertise enabling them to work with individuals affected by rape, sexual violence, and sexual abuse.

Counselling Placements

If you would like to complete your Level 4 counselling placement with KSAAS you will need to first complete the Level 4 Rape and Sexual Abuse Counselling training (next course begins on 16th September 2024).

Following successful completion of the course you will be offered an interview, and if successful at interview you may then be offered a placement.

Currently, £250 of the course fees are refunded on completion of 50 placement hours.

Supporting Survivors

This 2-hour session offers an introduction to disclosures of sexual violence.  It looks at the definitions of sexual violence and current statistics relating to incidents; explores the impact of trauma on the brain; available support services; the role of the SARC and the forensic medical exam; and key considerations when responding to an individual who has made a disclosure of sexual violence.

Cost of Caring

This one-hour session explores the impact that supporting survivors of trauma can have on helping professionals.  It looks at the signs and symptoms of compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma, as well as self-care strategies for individuals to safeguard themselves and to support managers in safeguarding their staff.

Sexual Harassment in the workplace

This 90-minute session is aimed at reducing the rates of sexual harassment in the workplace by exploring the behaviours that constitute sexual harassment and their impact, as well as identifying strategies to effectively challenge inappropriate behaviours when they occur.

Trauma in Children

A 90-minute session aimed at those working in any capacity with children and young people who may have experienced trauma.  Topics covered include trauma signs and symptoms in young people, problematic sexualised trauma responsive behaviour, Brook’s traffic light tool, and opportunities for discussion on how to manage trauma responsive behaviours in a variety of settings.

Sexual Violence in the Night-time Economy

Breaking the Silence

This 50 minute session is aimed at young people in Year 9 upwards. It covers consent, child sexual exploitation, indecent images, and sexual harassment. The session can be delivered face to face as an assembly within the East Kent area and is currently free of charge for a limited time due to external funding. We are also able to offer this training as a virtual session for those outside of East Kent for a small donation.

Changing the Culture

This is a 50-minute presentation aimed at 6th form students who may be going off to university in the next year or two.  In addition to key topics such as consent, indecent images and sexual harassment, the session aims to raise awareness of the prevalence of sexual violence amongst university students, and the support that is available.  The session can be delivered face to face as an assembly within the East Kent area and is currently free of charge for a limited time due to external funding.  We are also able to offer this training as a virtual session for those outside of East Kent for a small donation.
